The Breeds of The World Showcase at the upcoming Singapore Cat Carnival 2025 is set to be an exciting and immersive experience for cat lovers and enthusiasts.
Presented by Feline Club Singapore, this exhibition will feature a diverse range of purebred cats from around the globe. Visitors will have the unique opportunity to interact with some of the finest feline breeds, learn from expert breeders, and discover the fascinating world of ethical cat breeding. In this feature, we’ll explore what makes this exhibition stand out, the breeds that will be showcased, the educational opportunities for visitors, and how the event promotes responsible pet ownership in Singapore.
1. Event Overview and Concept
Can you tell us more about the Breeds of The World Showcase and how it fits into the overall Singapore Cat Carnival 2025?
The Breeds of The World Showcase is an inaugural exhibition of the 10 most popular and interesting breeds in Singapore. These breeds are featured by the 4 breeders from the 4 AVS licensed entities. For the first time in Singapore exhibition history, an interactive display of different breeds of cats would be featured. Enjoy an immersive and educational experience with the different breeds all under one roof. Learn more about them and meet the breeders who have been working tirelessly with these cats.
What inspired you to create this immersive, interactive exhibition focused on purebred cats from around the world?
We are proud of the work that we do and would like Singaporeans to understand, appreciate, and consider our Made in Singapore cats. Local born cats consist of many breeds and a prospective cat owner does not need to look beyond our borders to source for them. Many people have the perception that overseas imported pedigree cats look better than the local ones. We hope to be able to dispel this myth. Our local bred cats are not just comparable to overseas imports. They are healthier and usually look better. Also, there is more accountability in local born cats. We work closely with the authorities to ensure our breeding practice complies with governmental guidelines.
2. Participating Breeds and Showcase
Which cat breeds will be featured at the exhibition?
The different breeds of cats are: Maine Coon, British Shorthair, British Longhair, Siberian, American Curl, Ragdoll, Munchkin, Exotic Shorthair, Persian, and the American Shorthair.
Can you share some details about the diversity of breeds and their origins?
At the moment the breeds we have at the exhibition mainly originated from North America or Europe with the exception of the Persian. We hope to have a wider diversity of breeds from different geographical regions for future exhibition.
How were the participating breeds selected, and are there any rare or unique breeds making an appearance this year?
These breeds were selected based on popular demand. These cats are perhaps the most popular type of pedigree cats in this part of the world. Notably, the American Curl is making its debut this year. Rarely seen in any part of the world, they are an elegant, docile, medium-sized breed with unique curl back ears from their faces towards the centre back of their skull.
Will there be any live demonstrations or interactive experiences showcasing the different breed characteristics, like grooming, temperament, or show techniques?
There will interactive sessions conducted in special rooms where people can interact and experience the different breeds. Pre-booking is necessary and each session will be 10 minutes
3. Participating Breeds and Showcase
How is the exhibition space structured? Can you describe how the booths and “petting zones” will be organised for visitors?
The exhibition space has two main areas: the Showcase and Interactive areas. The Showcase area displays 10 cat breeds, while the Interactive area features 4 rooms, each showcasing a breed from a single cattery. Each room allows up to 5 visitors to interact with the cats for 10-minute sessions, designed with safety in mind. Visitors will be able to interact with the cats.
Can you elaborate on the safety measures and protocols in place to ensure both cats and visitors have a safe, enjoyable experience?
Visitors must sanitise their hands before interacting with the cats and attend a safety briefing. Only toys provided by exhibitors can be used, and visitors should avoid disturbing resting cats. Photography is allowed with the exhibitor’s consent.
How do you plan to engage visitors through educational materials such as breed banners, write-ups, and direct interactions with the cats?
We plan to collaborate with Clubpets on media campaigns and strategies leading up to the Showcase to engage visitors through educational materials and direct interactions with the cats.
4. Educational Elements of the Exhibition
What kind of educational materials or demonstrations will be available for visitors to learn about each breed’s specific characteristics and care requirements?
There would be banners displayed which would feature the different breeds. There would also be breed talk throughout the 2 days to introduce, elaborate, and answer questions on the different breeds.
How will the exhibition educate attendees about the importance of licensed breeders and responsible cat ownership in Singapore?
We hope that this exhibition would increase the awareness of local breeders and their offerings to Singapore. We also hope that this exhibition could highlight the importance of responsible cat ownership.

By doing so, it helps visitors, cat owners, potential pet adopters, and cat enthusiasts understand the importance of supporting ethical breeders and making thoughtful choices when welcoming a new furry companion into their homes.
What key messages about ethical breeding and responsible ownership do you hope to convey to visitors?
The key message is to highlight the importance of ethical breeding and responsible ownership, conveyed through clear, engaging communication with AVS-Licensed Breeders at the exhibition. Regarding ethical breeding, visitors should understand that responsible breeders prioritize the health and well-being of their cats over profit. This involves conducting comprehensive health check-ups and tests, maintaining high standards of care, and ensuring proper socialization for kittens. The exhibition will showcase how ethical breeders uphold these practices and provide ongoing support and consultation for both breeding cats and kitten owners. For responsible ownership, the exhibition will emphasize that acquiring a cat is a long-term commitment that requires careful thought and preparation. Key messages include:
- Understanding the full cost of cat ownership:
Beyond the initial purchase, visitors will learn about the ongoing expenses for food, veterinary care, grooming, and potential emergencies.
- The importance of indoor housing for cats:
Given Singapore’s environment, it is essential to ensure cats have a safe, controlled space within the home.
- The AVS Cat Management Frameworks:
This includes cat licensing, microchipping, sterilization, and adhering to proper vaccination schedules to ensure a cat’s well-being.
- Breed-specific needs and characteristics:
The exhibition will also educate visitors on how to match a cat’s breed to their lifestyle, highlighting the importance of understanding each breed’s unique traits.
This exhibition will serve as a valuable resource for both potential cat owners and those seeking to learn more about the ethical aspects of breeding and responsible care.
7. Visitor Interaction and Engagement
How will the Exhibitor Interaction section of the exhibition work? Can visitors expect to meet the breeders and ask questions about the cats?
Designated interaction rooms will offer cosy spaces where cats can roam freely, and visitors can engage with both the cats and breeders. Breeders will be available during scheduled sessions, allowing visitors to ask questions about the cats and the adoption process. Interaction sessions should be booked online in advance, and there will be an interest group counter for further inquiries.
What should visitors know about how to interact with the cats and what to expect during the interactive sessions?
Visitors must book their interaction session in advance and follow safety guidelines. In the interaction rooms, visitors should approach cats calmly, avoid sudden movements, and listen to the breeder’s instructions. Before interacting with the cats, visitors must sanitize their hands. During the sessions, visitors can interact with the cats by:
- Interacting and playing with the cats with teasers or other toys
- Letting the cat initiate contact with the visitors first
- Avoid picking up cats unless specifically invited by the breeder
- Never feed the cats, as the cats follow specific dietary plans
- Keep children under close supervision at all times
- Follow the breeder’s instructions about where and how to pet each cat
*Flash photography is prohibited, and some cats may require breaks. Breeders will rotate cats to avoid overstimulation. Visitors should respect each cat’s comfort level, engage with breeders for more information, and learn about the cats’ breeds and personalities.
8. Key Takeaways for Attendees
What are the key takeaways you hope visitors will leave with after attending the Breeds of the World Exhibition?
Visitors should leave with a better understanding of various cat breeds and insights into AVS-licensed breeders in Singapore. Beyond admiring the cats, they will gain knowledge about breed standards, unique traits, personalities, and care requirements. The exhibition highlights the importance of ethical breeding practices, such as health testing, vaccinations, proper socialisation, and maintaining breed standards. Visitors will also learn the value of investing in well-bred cats over unlicensed alternatives, and they’ll gain access to reliable resources and connections, including how to verify breeder credentials and receive ongoing support for cat ownership.
How do you plan to create lasting awareness about the diversity of cat breeds and the importance of ethical breeding practices beyond the event itself?
As Singapore’s largest breed cat exhibition, this event aims to make a lasting impact on visitors and the pet industry. It bridges the gap between visitors and licensed breeders, providing valuable information about cat breeds. Awareness will continue through digital platforms, including Clubpets’ website, social media, Feline Club channels, and breeder accounts. These platforms will share educational content, breeder profiles, and visitor experiences. Additionally, the event will be featured in Clubpets magazine and other online platforms to keep the public informed and engaged with future breed showcases.
9. The Future of the Event and Singapore’s Cat Community
Do you have plans to expand or evolve the Breeds of The World Exhibition in future Singapore Cat Carnival? If so, how?
Yes, Feline Club Singapore and participating licensed breeders are eager to expand the exhibition in future Singapore Cat Carnival and other Clubpets events. This could become an annual or year-round showcase. Collaboration with veterinary clinics, specialists, cat nutritionists, pet retailers, animal welfare groups, and authorities will help further enhance the exhibition’s impact.
What role do you see this event playing in building a more responsible and knowledgeable cat community in Singapore?
The Breeds of The World event aims to educate the public about cat breeds and introduce Singapore’s licensed breeders, promoting responsible and ethical breeding.
