Glamour Puss
All cats are beautiful, but there are some breeds in the cat fancy that will make even the most indifferent stop and stare. Here are three of the most striking felines you’ll ever meet.
CHARTREUX
Most likely to be crowned: Big-boned and beautiful
Origin: French
The glam factor: The thick, luxuriant pelt of the Chartreux was prized by furriers in 18th Century France!
Personality: Chartreux oberve the world around them calmly, and will tend to hang back and watch, rather than rush in. Although it is a massive cat, the Chartreux is very quiet, having a tiny voice and a sweet “smiling” expression. Born hunters, Chartreux are more interested in chasing and “killing” a toy than in romping around or wrestling in play.
SELKIRK REX
Most likely to be crowned: Best perm
Origin: American
The glam factor: The Selkirk’s plush coat falls in soft, loose curls, unlike those of wirehair breeds.
Personality: With a lot of the laid-back, reserved qualities of the British Shorthair, the cuddly nature of the Persian, and the playfulness of the Exotic Shorthair, Selkirks are very patient, tolerant, and loving. They are curious and extremely sociable cats that enjoy spending time with their preferred persons. People-oriented without being clingy, Selkirks have a generous measure of love and loyalty for their human companions.
The glam factor: A striking combination of shiny black coat and copper penny eyes.
Personality: The Bombay loves attention and to be carried around. Your Bombay will follow you from room to room and will almost always have something to say about what you are doing. A relatively active breed, the Bombay is always happy to play. They are wonderful with company, children and dogs. You won’t find a Bombay hiding under the bed when company arrives!
